The inaugural meeting of UMD PACT (Publishing Access Contract Terms) began with members introducing themselves and sharing their experiences in scholarly publishing and open access. Members include several campus faculty members in addition to library faculty with knowledge of, and expertise in, this area.
The group agreed to focus initially on information gathering and expressed interest in learning about the University of California’s negotiations with Elsevier and MIT’s principles on licensing terms. UMD Libraries’ current big-deal licenses and licensing standards will also be addressed. Communication strategies were discussed with an agreement to create a presence on the UMD website to promote open access by highlighting faculty champions and impact stories.
